Dubai Twilight popped a quarter cracks on the medial aspect of his left front hoof on the 05/10/2009. I shod him with a QuixShoe, this enabled me to raise his PA so I did not feel the need to stitch or patch the crack. Dubai Twilight ran the 1950m at Jebel Ali on the 06/11/2009 and finished 4th. I was relieved to find on inspection after the race that the quarter crack had not popped again - Quote from Richard Meaker the farrier for this horse.
We will keep updating this and follow this horse through the season. In my mind, as one who has patched and stiched Quarter Cracks here, and shod with mushroom and heart bar shoes at the races, this is without a doubt the fastest improvement I have seen, especially while in race work.
By correcting the PA we are changing the way the foot lands and reacts to the ground force. The fact that we have digital support to replace the non-existant digital cushion may also absorb the concussion forces that are instrumental in creating these cracks.
Who knows, with more data and more horses we may really be helping our Equine athlete.
