Just a Quix note - Dr. Andrew Watt from Bahrain used Acetone to clean the foot pre Quixing. Even after letting it dry for 15 minutes it did not adhere to the sole. The wall bonded nicely but it literally walked out of the shoes.

The best bet is to rasp off the hoof varnish and sand it if you must to get all the shiny surface off. Do not touch this surface with your hands again as that just puts the oils from your fingers which don't bond. The big key is moisture on the surface. If you have a water saturated foot then heat dry it with a brazing flame or heat gun.
